The winning bid is only one line in the cost of an auction machine. A low hammer price can become an expensive purchase after buyer fees, taxes, loading, transport, emissions work, overdue maintenance, and the first repair are added.

A disciplined buyer works backward from a maximum delivered-and-ready cost. The bid cap is what remains after every verified cost and a realistic uncertainty reserve are deducted. If the bidding passes that number, the machine belongs to someone else.

Read the sale terms before evaluating the machine

Auction formats differ. A live auction, timed online sale, reserved lot, government surplus sale, and marketplace transaction may have different inspection access, payment deadlines, title documents, assurance programs, and removal rules.

Save the terms that apply to the exact event and lot. Confirm:

  • Whether the machine is sold as-is or under a stated marketplace assurance
  • What the inspection report does and does not cover
